The boutique where you’re supposed to stay

Come for the small businesses. Stay for the sofas, workshops, music and the chance to make something yourself.

Here, the sofas aren’t decoration. You’re supposed to sit on them.

Around 25 small businesses share the boutique, selling their work and, sometimes, teaching you how to make your own. Painting. Crochet. Sewing. Rug tufting. The workshops change, the idea stays the same: come in, stay awhile, try something.

The owner, Kat grew up surrounded by the color, music and hospitality of the Dominican Republic. Her grandmother has had a store there for more than 40 years. Retail, it seems, runs in the family.

Her version adds a creative twist. Browse the vendor wall. Meet a maker. Pull up a chair. Leave with something you bought — or something you made yourself.

The result: less shopping trip, more afternoon well spent.

The next excuse to join them? ROOTED: a rooftop afternoon of movement, massages and tote painting on August 29. Details at @sbkonbroadway.
